When you combine courage with compassion, the world can change!
Are you tired of the animosity and vitriol that fill our society at every mention of politics or religion, dividing us into two hostile camps on every possible issue? We are too! You are invited to spend a time with our dear friend and author, Wayne Jacobsen. For twenty-five years Wayne helped school districts build common ground in some of the most divisive issues of our day. More recently he coauthored , "A Language of Healing for a Polarized Nation: Creating Safe Environments for Conversations about Race, Politics, Sexuality and Religion."
True to Wayne's style, this will be a conversational workshop designed to help you speak a language of healing. You will learn how personal awareness can change the way you communicate, build relationships with those who differ, and discover where you can help change the conversation in your community.
The open question and answer format will give you the opportunity to explore challenges and overcome obstacles to build a more peaceful society, one person and one conversation at a time.
You will learn how to:
--Swim against the tide of increased polarization in your relationships with family, friends, and coworkers.
--See disagreement as an opportunity for growth and discovery
--Change the temper of a hostile engagement or find the freedom to walk away. (78/22 Rule)
--Apply Roger Williams' idea of the "Liberty of Conscience" as a tool to respect people you disagree with and to work with them for mutually beneficial outcomes.
--What it takes to be a voice for the common good in your in-group and what it takes to open doors to your out-groups.
Everyone is welcome to this community event, however RSVP is required for Tuesday evening due to limited seating. There is no charge, although a love offering for Wayne will be received. RSVP
